Next Thursday, May the 19th, at 10 a.m. on Teams, the forum about how the current situation is affection the Galician livestock sector will take place. This event, organised in the framework of the dissemination activities of the PROTEINLEG project, of which FEUGA is representative, will count with the participation of some of the main companies and associations of the Galician livestock tissue.
The war in Ukraine is devastating the whole country and pushing the EU towards a critical situation. Galician livestock is not immune to this: already in a delicate situation as a consequence of the uncertainty of the last years due to de pandemic, the break of the war in Ukraine coincided with the moment in which the sector was reaching the “normality”, tensing the sector and heading it towards an extremely grievous situation.
Known as the European barn, Ukraine is the biggest exporter of numerous cultivations which are the base for the correct development of the European agri-food system. With the war, this supply was cut, which generated a huge supplying crisis for the livestock sector, who saw the incoming of feed severely affected.
In this event, participants will talk about how the war has affected and is affecting one of the most important agrarian sector in Galicia. Furthermore, possible solutions and how the sector can reinforce itself, will be tackled. The debate will be comprised by Almacenes Gamallo, Centro Tecnolóxico da Carne (FEUGA), AGACA and ASOPORCEL.
The forum is organised by the PROTEINLEG Operational Group, an innovation project in which among its objectives is, precisely, to reduce the dependency on importations. To do so, PROTEINLEG bets on the sustainable, innovative and km0 cultivation of traditional varieties of legumes rich in proteins to develop new feed formulas. The event will also include a short explanation of the project.
PROTEINLEG is a supra-autonomous initiative (Galicia, Andalucía, La Rioja and Madrid) comprised, apart from FEUGA, by Almacenes Gamallo, Centro Tecnolóxico da Carne, Misión Biolóxica de Galicia, Semillas Ramiro Arnedo and MIMIC SeaFood.
