Equality Plan in the company: get a head start and boost talent in your team

28/09/2021

If you work in Human Resources or talent management, you will be interested in this article: did you know that the Equality Plan in companies with more than 50 employees will be compulsory from 7 March 2022? In addition, it is already mandatory for companies belonging to the Public Administration, whose sole or majority capital is public or those that have been sanctioned by the Labour Inspectorate, especially after a complaint of sexual harassment or harassment on grounds of sex/gender. On 7 March 2019, the milestones for the implementation of this tool were established in the Official State Gazette of the Royal Decree-Law 6/2019, of 1 March, on urgent measures to guarantee equal treatment and opportunities between women and men in employment and occupation: https://www.boe.es/diario_boe/txt.php?id=BOE-A-2019-3244.

Although there are still a few months left until it becomes mandatory by law, why is it important to get a head start and implement an Equality Plan in your company now? Here are 4 reasons:

1. It improves the working environment: if we facilitate conciliation, equal opportunities, train our team to avoid hostile or inappropriate situations and promote flexibility, we will reduce absenteeism, we will get more comfortable workers, with less personal and domestic worries and, therefore, focused on productivity in their daily work.

2.           A tool to promote and retain talent: flexibility and offering facilities for work-life balance is one of the parameters most valued by employees and, consequently, a very attractive element in the conditions of a vacancy.

3.           Prestige and good corporate image: a company that takes care of its employees and is ahead of the law in terms of tools to improve their working conditions is a company that generates both internal and external trust.

4.           Advantage in the awarding of public administration contracts: if the three previous reasons have not already convinced you, this one will surely make it clear to you. This is the reason why many SMEs have opted to implement an Equality Plan to achieve better scores in public procurement processes, although it is not mandatory for small companies.
