Final event of the GREENCASTANEA project

19/05/2023

The GREENCASTANEA pilot project, in which we participate, celebrates its final event at the headquarters of Hifas Foresta, Pontevedra, next Thursday, June 1st, at 10:00 am. Representatives of the five participating Galician companies will explain the work and results obtained in the production of mycorrhizal chestnut by in vitro culture with Boletus edulis. In addition, attendees will be able to enjoy a guided tour of the facilities and nurseries of Hifas Foresta.

GREENCASTANEA was created in 2021 with the aim of implementing a novel, efficient and sustainable system to improve the profitability of the traditional Galician “souto”. To achieve this, biotechnological techniques such as in vitro culture, mycorrhization, thermohydrotherapy, clonal selection and molecular identification, among others, have been applied. This pioneering initiative places Galicia at the forefront of innovation, creating a native ecosystem, helping to prevent fires and keeping the rural environment alive.

The day will feature presentations by representatives of the five entities that make up the project, Hifas Foresta, the University of Vigo, IXP Castaña de Galicia, Soutos Sativa. María José Lubián, from the Department of Innovation and National Projects, will be in charge of the presentation of GREENCASTANEA on behalf of our headquarters. They will explain how they have managed to achieve the objectives and what results they have obtained after the application of biotechnological techniques. After the lectures, those attending in person will be able to enjoy a demonstration visit to the facilities of Hifas Foresta, where some of the activities related to the project will be explained, as well as different production systems of chestnut plants and mushroom cultivation used by the company.
