VITICAST<\/strong> (Innovative solutions for the prediction of fungal diseases in grapevine) published two technical videos of the project. A dynamic and close way of knowing the work with which the members of the project seek to provide innovative solutions to the cultivation of the vine in their aim of making viticulture a more sustainable activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 In order to reduce the excessive use of phytosanitary treatments and to avoid the environmental and economic problems of these products, VITICAST<\/a><\/strong> proposes to carry out phytosanitary treatments through the integral control of the vineyard. A disease only takes place if these three circumstances occur at the same time (known as the disease triangle): adequate meteorological conditions for the proliferation of the fungus, a phenological phase of the vine in which it is vulnerable and the presence of the pathogen in the vineyard. If any of these three conditions is not met, the application of phytosanitary treatments will not be necessary. VITICAST has developed a fungal disease prediction model that evaluates these three parameters, allowing treatment to be applied only when there is a real and objective risk of disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first of the videos, “Detection of spores in the vineyard and influence of climate change”, Javier Rajo, from the University of Vigo, and Vicente Abete, from Bodegas Hacienda Monasterio, explain how the aerobiological collectors installed in each plot are operated. These instruments make it possible to collect the spores present in the vineyard, which allows to know the presence of phytopathogenic fungi in the environment and to anticipate possible infections. In addition, a study has been carried out on the influence of climate change on the vine, a crop known for its high sensitivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For their part, D\u00e9bora Franco (Monet Tecnolog\u00eda e Innovaci\u00f3n) and Carlos Alberte (Vi\u00f1a Costeira) explain in the video “Development of prediction models of fungal diseases in the vineyard” the prediction models developed by VITICAST: mildew oospore maturation and subsequent primary and secondary infections, the models generated for powdery mildew and the spore prediction model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
